An unrelenting torrent of water, mist and thunder.
The rainforest rainstorm.
All smarter creatures hide in their burrows
or stand stiff under thick spreading trees.
But I,
I crouch on glittering neon and brown leaves
in late afternoon
where light sifts through featureless grey skies.
Stupidly soaked, as the maelstrom patters
loud on the hood of my jacket
and on the arboreal floor.
Rivulets of mossy dampness
stream down my face and onto my waiting tongue.
I taste wind,
and the trees above,
through which each drop has filtered.
Lightning rakes sky and creases cloud.
An emerald bubble has burst its wet harvest
upon smiling rocky crags
and replenished the world's lifespring.

Yep, it's been raining for two days.
